How to complete your instructor certification

CYA instructor courses have numerous prerequisites.  Follow this link for a list.

We can help you obtain First Aid, CPR, sailing and swimming prerequisites.  Please contact us to make arrangements.

Although you are meant to have your prerequisites complete before registering in a clinic, exceptions are made according to circumstances.  For example, it is not unusual for Green candidates to be missing their swimming award at the end of a clinic.

LTS candidates (Green, Blue, Red, Black, LTR) have a year from the last day of the clinic to finish obtaining their prerequisites.  After this time, their files are marked “incomplete” and closed.  Files are retained by Alberta Sailing until all requirements are complete.  Inform ASA of your progress by writing info@albertasailing.com and attaching your documents.  (Of course, you may fax or mail your documents if you prefer – see www.albertasailing.com).  At this time, they are forwarded to CYA.  CYA sends a registration package and the candidate may register (which involves paying the annual fee).

LTC candidates (Basic Cruising Instructor, Basic Outboard Instructor) have four months from the last day of the clinic to finish obtaining their prerequisites.  After this time, their files are marked “incomplete” and closed.  Missing prerequisites are indicated on a Candidate Incomplete Report which the candidate receives after the clinic.  Files are retained by Alberta Sailing until all requirements are complete.  This includes submitting a cheque for annual fees.  Inform Alberta Sailing of your progress by writing info@bronze4.com and attaching your documents.  Of course, you may mail or fax them instead.  When complete, files are forwarded to CYA and they register the candidate.

To protect candidates privacy, any candidate wishing to appear on the CYA website must request this by writing training@sailing.ca
